Well we just finished our first weekend Advanced Rider Course of the year and it was great. I have to say a special thanks to Island BMW and the new owner Auggie for the loan of a new BMW F800GS to run the course on as my personal F650 Dakar is still in the shop with a bit of a mysterious over heating problem. I thought I would put on post on here of my thoughts of the 800GS after riding it for 5 days, (Yes I was reluctant to return it). The 800GS is a great bike, smooth engine with great power and feel. The bike turns very tight and with very little effort and of course as with most BMW’s is comfortable to ride all day long over and over. The bike has great balance and I played with the ABS on and ABS off features and had the bike sliding sideways around a few cones…(Don’t tell Auggie..) and it was just a really fun and easy bike to ride. Throw a few options on it like a larger windshield, hand guards and some crash bars and I think we are closing in on a really spectacular ride….You may very well see me on one of these inthe future…..Don’t tell my wife..:)
See you out there Riders
Ryan

Hello Riders and welcome to 2011. The nice weather is trying to start and the bikes are coming out. Great feeling. Paul and I ride all year but still nice to have the warmer weather and see all the other bikes coming out. The 2011 schedule is finally out and we have completed the ICBC Instructors exemption process (more on that in another blog). Hope to see everyone out there this year, please feel free to drop in on a course and say hello. Level II dates are still in progress and I hope to have some soon.
See you on the road..

** !! WOW, After much work we now have a new facility secured for the Training Courses for 2010.
The new location is in Chemainus and is a great facility. We are now working with the owners to select courses dates. Our initial thought is we may offer some courses at the Chemainus location and a course or 2 at Ogden Point as well. The Ogden Point courses would have to be Sun-Mon or Mon-Tues course so we will see what riders appetite is for those types of dates. But for the year that is all we can get from Ogden Point.

The new location is bigger and completely fenced and secure and will make the training a better experience. We are also talking to Don Hatton at Duncan Motorsports about possibly catering the courses to offer something for lunches and breaks as the only food in that area is the Hidaway restaurant. We will let everyone know how that works out.

So thanks again for everyone being so patient with us and we hope to have course dates out to everyone soon.

Weathers great, lets ride

Just an update on our over sea’s training venture. We have run into some difficulty with our Visa Applications, a paperwork mistake that is not a big deal, but means we have to re-submit our entire application. Unfortunately this is going to likely push this trip from the late March time frame we had anticipated and we will have to re-schedule hopefully for April/May time frame. We continue to work on this exciting adventure to provide training in other parts of the world. I will continue to try to keep everyone updated on our progress.

Cheers

Our plan is to head over to Saudi for two weeks, and instruct 2-3 three day courses for civilian riders. We owe many thanks to Taher and Thamer for assisting with this project. We are both looking forward to the time over there. It will be my first time, but as many of you know, Ryan grew up there. Keep looking back for updates and many pictures afterwards.

Advanced Rider Training sends out a prayer to the families of the 4 officers killed in Lakewood, Washington last week. Ryan is currently headed down to Lakewood on the Police motorcycle to assist with the funeral escort. 4 families and 9 children between them now without a parent at Christmas , senseless. We hope the families will find a way to come thru this terrible time. Ryan & Paul

Dec 9th, 2009

Made it back from the Funeral, Amazing event. Approx 20,000 Police, Military and Fire personel attended, over 2,000 Police vehicles including approx 150 Police motorcycles in the escort. Was amazing to be able to be part of this event. The funeral itself was hard, listening to the children of some of the officers speak and express how much it meant to them to have so many attend and show repect made the long, cold trip there and back worth while. Ryan

Well our very good friend and graduate of several Advanced Rider Training course Paul “The IceMan” Mondor has exciting news. If your not aware, Paul set the World Record for the first person to ride a motorcycle (BMW F650 Dakar) from Canadian coast to coast in the middle of the winter. Then to follow it up, he did it again the following year with a sidecar and took a detour and tackled the Trans Labrador Highway….This is why he is called “The IceMan”….

Well Paul has written 2 books,, about the 2 trips and they are really amazing. In reading these book, you feel like your there and living the adventure with this crazy French Canadian rider.

We have added a link to Paul’s site in the links page and you can purchase the books from the site and at a number of other locations. If you order now from Paul you can get your copy for Christmas..!!

Paul is also branching out into Adventure Touring with the first “Frozen Butt” tour this winter in the cold of eastern Canada. There may be a connection in the future between Paul and Advanced Rider Training for Adventure Tours here in Beautiful British Columbia as well with Paul Mondor, Ryan and Paul leading groups through the back country of BC.

Congratulations Paul, All the best from Ryan and Paul and see you on the course next year.
